For rent signs as economic indicators?
Went out for my walk this morning, not sure what to make of the real-estate signage in Redlands.
Along a roughly 1 mile walk, there were at least 15 "For Rent" signs... of businesses. There are numerous places along Redlands Blvd. or State St. where there are small business complexes, and there are currently many small stores, salons, gift shops, etc. which have "closed up shop" now and the space is for rent.
My personal read into this... if you want to own a business that is recession-proof, run a convenience store or some sort of essential service business (people still need cars repaired, etc.) but if you do start a salon or gift shop, it seems that you need to be prepared to keep it afloat during hard economic times.
I also saw a couple attorney's offices, law offices, etc. which had people working in them - on a Sunday morning at 9am. I guess maybe the economy is helping someone find more work...
